Semarang – The Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) Diponegoro University held an international activity in the form of a Field Work Session entitled “PULSE: Progressing toward A Unified, Liveable, and Sustainable Ecosystem” on Saturday, May 23, 2026. This activity was chaired by Prajna Pramita Izzati, S.Si., M.Si. and became one of FSM’s efforts to strengthen international experiences for students and guest lecturers from various countries.
This field work activity invites participants to explore various leading tourist destinations in Semarang Regency, namely Gedong Songo Temple, Celosia Flower Park, and Umbul Sidomukti. The three locations were chosen because they have uniqueness that combines historical values, natural beauty, and sustainable tourism potential which is an important part of the regional identity of Semarang Regency.
This program aims to introduce the cultural richness, history, and tourism potential that Semarang has to international students who are undergoing academic activities in the FSM environment of Diponegoro University. In addition to providing a hands-on experience of natural beauty and local culture, this activity is also a means to strengthen relationships between participants from various country and institutional backgrounds.
A total of five international students and two international lecturers participated in this activity. Of the total, four students are from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Malaysia, while one student is from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Philippines. The two international teaching staff who participated in this activity came from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Malaysia.
During the activity, the participants not only enjoyed the panorama and tourist attractions visited, but also gained an understanding of the management of tourist destinations that support the concept of environmental sustainability. The interaction between international participants and the FSM academic community became a forum for the exchange of insights, culture, and experiences that enriched the global perspective of all participants.
Through PULSE activities, FSM Diponegoro University continues to show its commitment to supporting the internationalization of higher education and creating an inclusive, sustainable, and globally minded academic environment. This activity is expected to be a memorable experience for international participants as well as introduce the tourism and cultural potential of Indonesia, especially Semarang Regency, to the international world.
