SEMARANG – More exciting news has arrived from students in the Statistics Department, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University. Three outstanding students from the class of 2024—Muhammad Jordan Faadhilah, Annisah Salwa Hanifah, and Hatta Matahari Persada, members of the Kosar Team—have won third place in the prestigious Statistics Olympiad, part of the Smatic 7.0 series of events.
Smatic 7.0 (Smart Statistics) is a national-scale competition organized by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Statistics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Jakarta State University (UNJ). In 2026, the olympiad carries the theme “Uncovering Insights: Applying Data-Driven Approaches to Solve Complex Development Challenges.” This theme was chosen specifically to respond to the global environmental crisis and the increasingly real challenges of climate change. Through this competition, students are expected to be able to navigate in developing strategies to solve environmental problems in order to realize a resilient future through an objective quantitative approach.
Team Kosar’s journey to the championship was a challenging and highly competitive one. The competition officially began with the preliminary round on June 13, 2026, using a Computer-Based Test (CBT) system. In this stage, participants were tested on their agility, completing 30 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes. The material covered was extensive, encompassing Regression Analysis, Sampling Techniques, Mathematical Statistics, Linear Models, and Probability Theory.
Armed with a strong theoretical understanding, Team Kosar successfully became one of the five best teams to advance to the semifinals. The semifinals, which took place from June 21 to 28, 2026, focused entirely on data processing and analysis. Team Kosar was required to compile comprehensive analysis results with a maximum limit of 20 pages using software. By leveraging their expertise in executing data through software such as R Studio and SPSS, Team Kosar was able to explore data modeling in depth to solve the case study presented by the panel of judges.
Their analytical acumen earned them a spot among the top three teams advancing to the final round. This decisive round was held offline on August 8, 2026, at the Maftuchah Yusuf Hall, Dewi Sartika Building, 2nd Floor, Campus A, UNJ. Team Kosar had to present their data analysis results for 15 minutes before a panel of judges and an audience. Furthermore, they had to defend their analytical arguments in a challenging 20-minute question-and-answer session.
The success of Muhammad Jordan Faadhilah, Annisah Salwa Hanifah, and Hatta Matahari Persada adds to the long list of outstanding achievements by UNDIP Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences students, particularly in the Statistics Department. This achievement also serves as concrete evidence of the high quality of education and the academic climate on campus, which consistently encourages students to innovate and compete.
The UNDIP Statistics Department congratulates and expresses its highest appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the Kosar Team. We hope this extraordinary achievement will inspire, motivate, and inspire all other UNDIP Statistics students to continue working, honing their potential, and achieving success both nationally and internationally.
